Germany, France, Italy and Austria are 50 litre tanks at their bulletin prices. The comparison is cross-border context only: Switzerland is not part of the EU bulletin ranking.

About these figures

The prices on this page are monthly national averages published by the Swiss Federal Statistical Office (BFS), from its dataset LIK, Durchschnittspreise für Energie und Treibstoffe. They are not live station prices: Switzerland has no official station-level price database, because Swiss filling stations do not report their prices to an authority, so no station data exists to show. This page therefore carries no station lists and no cheapest-forecourt figures.

The BFS averages are a by-product of the Swiss consumer price index (LIK) price collection: each figure is the average of the end-customer prices collected across the country during the month, including VAT and all duties. That is also why they appear with the consumer price index at the start of the following month, rather than during the month itself.

A monthly average smooths over a lot. What you actually pay varies by station, by canton and by the day, and prices near the border move with the cross-border traffic as well. Read the average as the trend line, not as the price on any one forecourt sign in October 2026.

Questions about fuel prices in Switzerland

What is the average price of petrol and diesel in Switzerland?

In October 2026, a litre of petrol (unleaded 95) cost CHF 2.12 on average in Switzerland, and a litre of diesel CHF 2.41. In euro that is about €2.307 and €2.623 per litre at the ECB rate. These are the Swiss Federal Statistical Office’s monthly national averages, not live station prices.

Why are there no live or station prices for Switzerland?

Switzerland has no official station-level price database. Swiss filling stations do not report their prices to an authority, so there is no official station data for anyone to publish, and this page shows none rather than an estimate. What exists officially is the monthly national average from the federal statistics office.

How often are Switzerland’s fuel prices updated?

Once a month. The BFS averages are a by-product of the consumer price index collection, so each month’s average appears with the index at the start of the following month, and this page is updated as each new month is published. The latest month shown is October 2026.

Where do Switzerland’s fuel prices come from?

From the Bundesamt für Statistik (BFS), the Swiss Federal Statistical Office: the dataset LIK, Durchschnittspreise für Energie und Treibstoffe, part of the detailed results of the Swiss consumer price index. It is published under the BFS terms Freie Nutzung - Quellenangabe ist Pflicht (open use, attribution required). The euro figures are converted at the European Central Bank’s reference rate for the franc.

Why is Switzerland not in the EU ranking on this site?

Switzerland is not a member of the European Union, so it does not appear in the EU Weekly Oil Bulletin, or in the rankings and cheapest-in-Europe tables built from that bulletin. Its figures come from its own federal statistics office instead, and because they are monthly averages they are shown separately rather than mixed into weekly bulletin data.

Sources and method

  • Everything on price, history, records and change on this page comes from one place: the Bundesamt für Statistik (BFS), Swiss Federal Statistical Office, dataset LIK, Durchschnittspreise für Energie und Treibstoffe, monthly averages in CHF per litre from the Swiss consumer price index collection, published under the BFS terms Freie Nutzung - Quellenangabe ist Pflicht (open use, attribution required). The latest month held is October 2026.
  • Euro figures are converted at ECB euro reference rates (European Central Bank); the rate in force is the one shown in the header selector.
  • The Germany, France, Italy and Austria figures in the tank comparison come from the EU Weekly Oil Bulletin of 2 Nov 2026 (European Commission, CC BY 4.0). Switzerland does not appear in that bulletin.
  • How to read this page: the averages are monthly national averages, not prices at any individual station. Records and changes are worked out from Switzerland’s own stored monthly series, in which petrol runs from January 1993 and diesel from May 1993, both to October 2026. Nothing is estimated, and no other country’s data is mixed in.
